Mission accomplished! A 120km figure 8 starting with Tongariro Northern Circuit followed by Round the Mountain (Ruapehu). I have run the Northern Circuit before but this was my first time doing Around the Mountain. Stunning – although most of it was in the dark and rain but the 10-50m in front of me I could see was amazing! The second half was a bit hairy with rain meaning the tracks were muddy streams and rivers a bit dicey to cross but got around. Not fast 24hrs 20 but that was the idea so I can recover quickly. The Revenant race is in 4 weeks. This was a final big hit out for that race so testing gear Altra Running New ZealandUltraspire NZ @, food, drink Tailwind Nutrition NZ , my head, pace etc. Stoked with how it went. Now recover and work on the event admin. #trailrunningnz#tongarironationalpark#mtruapehu#trailrunning#figure8#newzealandmountains#nznationalpark @ Tongariro, New Zealand
The tracks were pouring with water
A 400m speed rep was the last thing I felt like after 19hrs!
Here’s a sweet video Gareth Morris did of the run around the Northern Circuit a couple of days ago with a few mates – my warm up 😀 before I continued on the Round the Mountain trail.
